{This year (2004), we were unable to go to our church for a blessing on our Easter baskets — a Polish tradition called that is spreading throughout the Catholic Church. After researching it online, I wrote and used the following blessing as an approximation of the traditional Polish blessing, of which I could not could not find a direct translation in English. Here it is …}

Lord, you are the Bread of Life who died and rose for the life of the world. Bless the bread and holiday baked goods in memory of the Bread of your life, which was given up for our salvation.

X We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lord, you are the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Bless the meats and sausages, which will become the holiday meal in memory of the Paschal Lamb, as He gave to the Apostles at the Last Supper.

X We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lord, you are the Christ, our Life and Resurrection. Bless the eggs, the sign of new life. Remember our family, friends, and those who are unable to be with us this season. We live in your Kingdom now and await with Joy the time to feast in Your Father’s house, where you live and reign forever.

X We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
